CSS How to Make a Website CSS: Cascading Style Sheets Center the Wrapper

My a { } element is working, but my #wrapper {} isn't editing the page. What am I doing wrong?

In my index page, I have my div id="wrapper" and in my main.css file I have:

wrapper {

max-width:940px; margin:0 auto; background:orange; } It doesn't seem to be changing the page. What am I doing wrong?

I figured it out - I had my div ending at the wrong location, and so it was screwing up the css. Once I moved the closing tag, it worked.
