my bootstrap doesn't show up

I'm using a mac, I have installed bootstrap as showed in the video, I than added the line of code to created the bar but when I run the application on the server my modification don't work. Why?

There are two possible answers: either you have a different version of Bootstrap than the one used in the videos or other styles override Bootstrap styles (check what css/scss files you have in your assets and what is their order in application.css.scss).
