My error message mentions "linkName" but nowhere in the exercise does it say to reference "linkName".

I've tried a lot of possibilities here.

app.js
let inputValue = document.querySelector('inputValue');
index.html
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
    <head>
        <title>DOM Manipulation</title>
    </head>
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="style.css" />
    <body>
        <div id="content">
            <label>Link Name:</label>
            <input type="text" id="linkName">
            <a id="link" href="https://teamtreehouse.com"></a>
        </div>
        <script src="app.js"></script>
    </body>
</html>

Hi there! You're correct. The challenge does not mention linkName, but I believe this to be on purpose. They're expecting you to do a little detective work here. You are trying to select something containing "inputValue", but no such thing exists in the HTML.

Store the value of the text input element

Take a look at this line:

<!-- this is the input element and it contains information that makes it easily selectable -->
<input type="text" id="linkName">

I think you can get it with these hints, but let me know if you're still stuck! :sparkles:

i tried this and it worked: let inputValue = document.getElementById('linkName').value;

THANK YOU!
