My function works as intended but it is not saying it's correct answer.

Any idea why this is?

    for x in items:
        if x[0] == "a":

Have you tried doing print(x) with the paren?

Python 2 allowed non-paren print statements while Python 3 uses the print function so whatever you print has to be inside paren.
