JavaScript JavaScript Basics (Retired) Creating Reusable Code with Functions Passing an Argument to a Function

my return value isn't working, says I didn't create a function named returnValue and I did so what is wrong otherwise

I feel like I'm missing, or just not grasping, something simple here...

script.js
function returnValue() {
  return returnValue();
}
index.html
<!DOCTYPE HTML>
<html>
<head>
  <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">
  <title>JavaScript Basics</title>
</head>
<body>
<script src="script.js"></script>
</body>
</html>

this might be helpful - the task was: Create a function named returnValue that accepts a single argument (you can name it anything), then immediately returns that argument.

Treehouse discourages posting of answers without comment, but yea, this is what following my hints would look like.

You forgot to have your function take an argument.

And then, the function should return that argument (not call itself).

By the way — a function that calls itself unconditionally like that creates an infinite recursion loop that will eventually use up all the memory in the computer. :smirk:
