any suggestions why i get NameError although i already defined the function 'random_item'
# EXAMPLE
# random_item("Treehouse")
# The randomly selected number is 4.
# The return value would be "h"
import random
def random_item(iterable_thing):
return iterable_thing[randint(0,len(iterable_thing)-1)]

21,074 PointsI don't know why is showing you a "NameError", however you have forgotten to put "random" when you're generating the random number. You could solve it like this
import random
def random_item(iterable_thing):
return iterable_thing[random.randint(0,len(iterable_thing)-1)]
