WordPress How to Make a Website with WordPress Installing WordPress The Famous 5-Minute WordPress Install

No files on sever

I have a domain on my host. I have created no files or directories except assets and have not uploaded anything yet. Through FileZilla and DreamWeaver I connect with the ftp.mydomain.com just fine, but in both cases I only see a blank folder on the server. What am I missing?

You need to check with your hosting provider to make sure that you are accessing the primary web root folder (htdocs or public_html).

It sounds like you had already possibly installed WordPress using a 1 click install if it was already installed but you hadn't uploaded anything.

Thank you Zac. Yes, we have several domains through this hosting company. This one I wanted to use has never been used before. But it would have been something my partner did in the past. I guess my mistake was in assuming it was a matter of putting WordPress in the domain, not the server. I am now at a standstill until I figure out how to get at that part of the hosting account. My partner seems reluctant to let me in or does not understand why I need to. At any rate, I can't get deeper in than that unlabeled folder showing up in FileZilla.

Sorry, but did you actually upload anything to the server?

As stated above, no. All I did was create the site on the host. The local site has assets but nothing else. The video shows file like I would have seen on WAMMP using phpMyAdmin, but this site shows only a blank root directory.

Most likely what's going on is the hosting company you are using only gives you access to the public/index folder of your site. Try uploading everything you have in your local folder into the folder that's appearing and see what happens.

Well, I've uploaded the WordPress files I downloaded. Apparently, WordPress was already there and now it is overwritten. I can't open the folder, but before I did all this, a file called wp-links had magically appeared. outside the folder. I suppose I can download it and look at it.
