"extends main.twig" is not the start of a block (note the absence of the "block" keyword) so no need to use "endblock". "Extends" is a command that Twig understands to go to your template page (in this case main.twig) and bring all the content which is surrounded by block tags and insert it into the page that you're on, thus leaving you with only the job of inserting the content which is specific to that page only.

Tabbing just means selecting text and hitting the tab key to indent it. Code is indented to show parent/child relationships and emphasize hierarchy. It's is just part of keeping your code tidy which makes it more readable and easier to follow and see what's going on.
