Number Game Refinement Code Challenge - String Length

I don't understand where I'm going wrong with calculating the string length. I've tried both just_right(x) and just_right(str(x)) with no success. What am I missing?

"Create a new function named just_right that takes a single argument, a string. If the length of the string is less than five characters, return "Your string is too short". If the string is longer than five characters, return "Your string is too long". Otherwise, just return True."

strlen.py
def just_right(str(x)):
  if len(x) < 5:
    print("Your string is too short")
  elif len(x) > 5:
    print("Your string is too long")
  else:
    return True

For anyone else who gets stuck on this, you need to return not print. Doh!

Hi,

you're close, just two little things!

  • The challenge is asking you to return not to print
  • You don't need to convert the argument into string
def just_right(x):
  if len(x) < 5:
    return "Your string is too short"
  elif len(x) > 5:
    return "Your string is too long"
  else:
    return True
