I noticed on chrome the prompt doesn't even show and in IE it does, when I run it on Chrome only the students title is the only thing in the website running

Hmm. There doesn't seem to be a prompt in your code. Could you perhaps post a snapshot of your workspace so we can see the latest version? The code posted above doesn't throw any errors for me, and appears to do what I would expect.
