I'd use WAMP or XAMPP. I use MAMP for a Mac, which is pretty much the same as these two and never had any issues with it.

To follow up on the great suggestions Stephen O'Connor has made, there is a Treehouse Workshop to install MAMP on Windows and another for Mac.
