phpMyAdmin and mySQL?

Why does Zac use both mySQL and phpMyAdmin to update and modify the databases on cPanel? Aren't they both meant to do the same thing? I don't understand what the difference was.

It's just different software that's writes sql.

But why did he use both when transferring the WP site from local to live in the cPanel. He used phpAdmin AND mySQL . Any clue why?
