pixels and em

why do we use pixels in some cases and em in others?

Pixels is using quite a strict unit of measurement that is not really flexible.

em is like a 'relative' unit. If you set say the pixel size of text, the will almost work like a percentage of that pixel unit depending on the size of the screen.
