playlist.js:17 Uncaught SyntaxError: Invalid or unexpected token

this is line listHTML += '<li>' + songs[i][0] + ' by ' + songs[i][1] + '</li>; everything seems to be correct.

Many times it is the code before the line indicated. Can you post all of your code?

var playList = [ ['I Did It My Way', 'Frank Sinatra'], ['Respect', 'Aretha Franklin'], ['Imagine', 'John Lennon'], ['Born to Run', 'Bruce Springsteen'], ['Louie Louie', 'The Kingsmen'], ['Maybellene', 'Chuck Berry'] ];

function print(message) { document.write(message); }

function printSongs( songs ) { var listHTML = '<ol>'; for ( var i = 0; i < songs.length; i += 1) { listHTML += '<li>' + songs[i][0] + ' by ' + songs[i][1] + '</li>; } listHTML += '</ol>'; print(listHTML); }

printSongs(playList);

Actually I didn't catch it before. You are missing an end quote on your final li tag. Should be this:

listHTML += '<li>' + songs[i][0] + ' by ' + songs[i][1] + '</li>';
