Preview for Php not working(mac)

Hey would love to follow along with the instructor but my workspaces isn't quite working. The editor works but as soon as I try to preview my work it gives me a server error and the number 500. I hit details to see what the problem is and I get this jazz:

The website encountered an error while retrieving http://port-80-j8quzlg5vb.treehouse-app.com/. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.

I also tried my text editor(Atom) to see if I could get it to work, so I downloaded the index.php file and workspaces and pasted it to my editor and all I am able to get is the code its self and nothing I've really done. I went further into it and visited the php site and it all looks like a bunch of stuff I am not use to seeing so it made no sense. The ideal situation is to work along with the instructor using my own text editor since I will be using that anyways. If someone can explain set by step on how to download php for mac (el Captain) that would be awesome. Please use beginner friendly words in your description cause half of the problem is that I am not use to the terminology so it throws me off.

Hey Carl! If you can't get it running you can check out this workshop that shows how to set up a local PHP development environment. I have done most of the courses this way and it is pretty awesome because you don't need workspaces to do your projects.
