29,881 PointsYou need to pass in the id to the function getElementById()
let button = document.getElementById('sayPhrase');

10,962 PointsHey Simon!
You're almost correct. You should select the button in your index.html with the ID of 'sayPhrase'. The code below should do the trick!
let button = document.getElementById('sayPhrase');
Hope this helps!

11,438 PointsThe actual element Id is "sayPhrase" not "button". Also you have to do the same for the input element.
hope this helps.
const button=document.getElementById("sayPhrase"); let input = document.getElementById("PhraseText");
button.addEventListener('click', () => { alert(input); });

11,438 PointsThis is a little clearer
<p>
const button=document.getElementById("sayPhrase");
let input = document.getElementById("PhraseText");
button.addEventListener('click', () => {
alert(input);
});
</p>
