I think this course needs its Project files....
Not that we could not build or recreate what he does with out us, but so we can follow along better.

I agree that would be great - but I think there's a little more to it due to the database builds etc.
Anyway, I'm up to the stage you posted this at and have been ensuring my version control is up to date. I have just pushed a commit called "ANDREW's position" into the repo here - you can pull that down if you want.
To let you know, I'm having a little trouble at this point as I have no TimeEntries
in my database so typing TimeEntry.first
is bringing back nil
. I may fix that in later commits, so do keep posted!
Cheers,
Steve.

30,056 PointsIt's been a nightmare this course and the other were we built the todo list. I don't know if the topics are too complex, it's a new method of learning/teaching they are applying, they are too lazy, or they dont know/care about quality control and customer satisfaction.
In the course of database foundations we downloaded a file with a database , we could've done the same here to follow along and make the experience more enjoyable. We would learn how to incorporate an existing database to a new project. They could've written a blogpost with general guidelines if they dont have the time to answer questions. Just to mention a couple of suggestion I could make.
In youtube I found a free course of Rails 4, the first two videos look nice, the website looks nice too, when I finished it I will have something to compare against this one at treehouse.

57,712 PointsHi Carlos,
I do have to agree that this course does present unnecessary challenges that are very difficult to get through. Indeed, I didn't reach the end of the course for the reasons you mention - code was not explained (well enough for me) and was amended between videos etc. Very frustrating, but I did still learn a good bit about the subject.
Do you have a link to the courses you mention, please?
I've bought this book which I found very useful. Although, I must say that I found myself dealing with familiar topics because of what I had learned during the Treehouse course.

Courses Plus Student 30,909 PointsThe problem with this course is not complexity, it's lack of caring on the part of Treehouse. This course feels like it was done in afternoon on a whim. There are other courses like this on Treehouse. One that comes to mind is the Angular.js. The reason I say lack of caring is, I've seen many comments in the forums about these courses. Some over a year old. Yet, nothing has been done to correct the problem. It's great to have a guest lecturer to give real world insight, but not everyone has the ability to educate. There needs to be some sort of quality control. Sadly, I don't see that happening.
