How do I capture the class instance?
import random
class Die:
def __init__(self, sides=2):
if sides < 2:
raise ValueError("Can't have fewer than two sides")
self.sides = sides
self.value = random.randint(1, sides)
def __int__(self):
return self.value
def __add__(self, other):
return int(self) + other
def __radd__(self, other):
return self + other
class D20(Die):
def __init__(self):
super().__init__(sides = 20)
from dice import D20
class Hand(list):
@property
total = 0
def rolls(self,amount):
for _ in range(amount):
self.append(D20
def total(self):
return sum(self)

- keep the
total
method unaltered. It looks like you have mixed theroll
method code with thetotal
method - remember to
import D20
fromdice
- To be callable from the class
Hand
, theroll
method should be decorated using@classmethod
- be sure to call the method
roll
not "rolls" - as a class method, the first parameter will point to the current class. So "self" would point to the class. You could use
inst = self()
to create an instance. This is why class methods usually name the first parametercls
to imply "class", then an instance could be created usingself = cls()
which is more readable. - when appending
D20
, be sure to use instances ofD20
created with the parens:D20()
- lastly, be sure that the class method returns the instance you created:
return self
Post back if you need more help. Good luck!!
