Python Python Basics (2015) Logic in Python Try and Except

i dont get it

trial.py 
def add(a,b):
    try:
        d=float(a)
        e=float(b)
        c=d+e
        except ValueError:
            return None

    else:
        return c

Hi there, you simply need to move your exception outside the scope of the try block, like so:

def add(a,b):
    try:
        d=float(a)
        e=float(b)
        c=d+e
    except ValueError: #move the except block
            return None
    else:
        return c

This will correct your code, however if i may, i would like to suggest a solution that does the same as your code but uses less lines of code:

def add(a,b):
    try:
        sum = float(a) + float(b)
    except ValueError:
        return None
    else:
        return sum
