Python Python Basics (2015) Letter Game App Random Item

random, index, and iterables

Hi! I have not been able to figure this out -- particularly towards the end of the challenge. Thanks in advance for any guidance!

item.py
# EXAMPLE
# random_item("Treehouse")
# The randomly selected number is 4.
# The return value would be "h"

import random
def random_item ('hello'):
  random_num = random.randint (0, len(('hello')-1))
  return 'hello'[random_num]

You code is actually very close. You need to provide a variable as the function parameter. You are using a fixed string.

Replacing 'hello' with arg and fixing len(arg)-1 statement:

import random
def random_item(arg):
    random_num = random.randint(0, len(arg)-1)
    return arg[random_num]

Ah, I see. Makes sense. Thanks so much!
