Really not understanding the style tag

what to do after i add the styles

hey! you are really close on this one. The questions asks you to put a style tag above the h1 element. you have opened the style tag above the body tag. so it should look like this:

<body>
<style>

</style>
<h1>Nick Pettit</h1>

</body>

The Style tag is a declaration where the browser will read the CSS styles and apply the code to the HTML elements like the H1 tag.

The style tag is a tag used to contain CSS in an HTML document. Because of this you shouldnt wrap HTML in a style tag, but instead put CSS inside.

So try this.

<style></style>
<body>
<h1>Your name</h1>
</body>
