Receiving parse error

Not sure why I am receiving a parse error

  if a > b {
    return a;
  } else {
    return b;
  }
}

Try putting brackets around "a > b".

So:

function max (a,b){
  if (a > b) {
    return a;
  } else {
    return b;
  }
}
