Regular expressions

I am matching several postals in the UK

A9 9AA A99 9AA AA9 9AA AA99 9AA A9A 9AA AA9A 9AA

So this is my regexp and it works fine in phpliveregexp preg_match("/^[A-Z]+\d+([A-Z])?\s\d[A-Z]+$/m", $input_line, $output_array);

But when im trying the output in my visual studio code, i just get an empty array. I dont understand!!!!!
