Removing in Python

What is the difference between

states.remove(5) states.remove([5])

When doing this challenge(List removal), it looked like the list was written in brackets but didn't seem to require them to remove...does anyone know why?

states.remove(5) tells Python to remove the first instance of the value 5 from the list states. states.remove([5]) tells it to remove the first sublist of [5] from the list states. I don't think that it would affect the behaviour of your code, it's just a syntax difference.
