Ruby and Ruby on Rails versions!

When creating a Ruby on Rails application, is it advised to use the same version of ruby on rails as the treehouse teachers are using in the tutorials, as i am sure that new version's have been released since creating some of the tutorials. any advice would be great and much appreciated.
