Don't understand the request...

method.rb 
def subtract(a,b)
  puts a-b
  def multiply (c,d)
    puts c*d
  end

Well I don't fully understand your question, but you are missing an 'end' to encapsulate the subtract method. Here is the standard ruby function code:

def functionname(variable)
   return <value>
end

I would imagine proper syntax in your instance should go something like this:

def subtract(a,b)
  c = a - b
  return c
end

def multiply(a,b)
  c = a *b
  return c
end

Note: it also doesn't make sense to use puts if you want to reuse the function in compination ith another function. Instead I would use 'return'
