Courses Plus Student 236 PointsRuby on Rails jobs
I am living in northern New Jersey and would like to know about the number of Ruby on Rails jobs in the area. I just started the Ruby on Rails track, but I am also taking a Professional Ruby on Rails course on Udemy because they build a real project from scratch. Are these two going to be enough to get me a job?

25,374 PointsI can't say much about the job situation in your area, but I really feel taking courses is only half the way there (it's a great start, it shows you are willing to learn). I suggest getting your hands dirty on something you build from the ground up. It's very different to actually deal with problems no tutorial or course will have the answers for.
The Ruby on Rails track is really bad at its current stage so I wouldn't suggest going through with it (speed through the "Build a Todo List Application With Rails" if you will, its actually an introduction to Test Driven Design, which will be useful eventually, but it doesn't teach you the basics). If you feel inclined, there is an older Rails course on Treehouse (the one where Seifer does the creepy faces every time the video ends and they build a Treehouse Facebook). Since they use an older version of Rails you'll have to adapt some things to make them work so its a fun, almost real exercise in debugging an application. There are a lot of good courses on Rails out there as well (The one from OneMonth is really good, albeit expensive, and the PluralSight ones which can be a bit advanced at times) so there is no lack of resources.
All in all, keep building stuff and applying to jobs, the pieces will fit eventually =D. Good luck!
