Setters and Getters... huh??

Can someone please elaborate on this setters and getters concept - I don't feel it was made very clear in the video and I don't understand why we need them instead of directly manipulating the variable without 'setting' and 'getting' them.

this stack overflow post provides a list of many reasons.

The first reason: Encapsulation of behavior associated with getting or setting the property - this allows additional functionality (like validation) to be added more easily later is one of the big ones.

Basically getters and setters are helpful when you want to run some code whenever the variable is get or set, like sending a notification to your app whenever a certain variable is changed and stuff like that. but there are many reasons so I would have a look at that list and maybe do some more research on your own
