Should I be coding in both my own personal workspace and in the coding challenges within the lesson. I feel like i'm duplicating my work.

Well in the start duplicating actually helps, at least it helped me. And its a personal preference really because the main idea is to understand the logic/concept behind the code,

The coding challenges usually do it for me, they are there to test you on what you have absorbed in the lessons previous. It's up to you if you duplicate that code somewhere else on top of those challenges.
