I am totally missing something when it comes to combining the id and lastName variables. Any suggestions?
var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";
var userName = id.toUpperCase();
userName = 'id' + '#' + 'lastName';

29,679 PointsYou're concatenating the 'id'
and `'lastName' as strings instead of as variables. The way you have it written would set the userName variable to 'id#lastName' no matter what the id and lastName variables were equal to.
You just need to take the quotes off those, but leave the quotes on the '#'. Also, it's asking that both id and lastName be set to uppercase.
var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";
var userName = id.toUpperCase() + '#' + lastName.toUpperCase();

8,378 PointsBy adding quotation mark around the var id and lastName, they become a string instead of a variable. Your goal here is to add the toUpperCase() metho on each id and lastName variable.
var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";
var userName = id.toUpperCase();
userName = 'id' + '#' + 'lastName'; // the var id + lastName + # all become a string with quotation mark around them
Something like this
var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";
userName = id.toUpperCase() + '#' + lastName.toUpperCase();
