Python Python Basics Functions and Looping Raise an Exception

not sure what I did wrong here. can you point me in the right direction?

suggestinator.py
def suggest(product_idea):
    return product_idea + "inator"
if suggest < 3:
         raise ValueError("are you sure you dont get it?")

You need to check the length of product_idea, and raise an error if the character length of product_idea is less than 3. Then finish with the return.

Good try! It partially works-- but it will fail for any product less than three.

You will need to focus your efforts on understanding functional return values from the standard library like the len() function and nesting your raise so it is within the function.

Hint:

def suggest(product_idea):
    # You should check if the len(product_idea) is less than three
    #     then raise the error

    # finally, you want to return the product idea
    return product_idea + "inator"
