JavaScript JavaScript Basics (Retired) Storing and Tracking Information with Variables Using String Methods

The pound or lastName does not want to be added to the UserName

var id = "23188xtr"; var lastName = "Smith";

var userName = id.toUpperCase(); += '#' + lastName.toUpperCase();

the final value should be "23188XTR#SMITH"

app.js
var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";

var userName = id.toUpperCase(); += '#' + lastName.toUpperCase();

Hey Dwayne! Remove the first semi-colon after id.toUpperCase. Remember, semi-colons close statements and you only need one.

Instead of += just use +. You are not adding to the value of userName, you are just concatenating a string. Hope that helps!

var userName = id.toUpperCase() + '#' + lastName.toUpperCase();
