JavaScript JavaScript Basics (Retired) Creating Reusable Code with Functions Passing an Argument to a Function

This is stumping me... Any suggestions? I don't know what goes after 'var echo ='

I am quite confused on what I am doing wrong here. Anyone willing to give some insight?

script.js
function returnValue(hello) {
  return hello
  var echo = returnValue();
 return echo;
}
index.html
<!DOCTYPE HTML>
<html>
<head>
  <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">

<script src="script.js"></script>
</body>
</html>

Nothing after a return statement runs so that code is unreachable. This is all you need:

function returnValue(hello) {
  return hello;
}

Hi Amber,

You are on the right track, but on task 2, the challenge is asking that you create the "echo" variable outside of your function. You have defined it inside.

Also, you will need to pass in a string, since returnValue() requires an argument. This string can be anything you want.

Hope this helps.
