JavaScript JavaScript Basics (Retired) Making Decisions with Conditional Statements Using Comparison Operators

This objective isn't accepting the answer even though it is right

When I submit this code it comes back with a message that says "Bummer: Did you use the '>' symbol to test if a is greater than b?" even though I clearly did. Help!

script.js
var a = 10;
var b = 20;
var c = 30;
if('a'>'b'){
  alert( '<p>a is greater than b</p>')
} else {
  alert("<p>a is not greater than b</p>")
}

The error message might be a bit misleading, but you do have an issue. Not with the operator, you did get that right. But you should never enclose variable names in quotes. Anything in quotes is treated as a string literal and not a variable.

Also, the "alert" dialog doesn't process HTML markup, so you won't need any tags with the messages.

Thank You!
