This tutorial is out of date. The MAMP WebStart page is completely different now. It is very hard to following along

I was able to follow along even with the differences up until it was required to open phpMyAdmin. When I go to tools to select phpMyAdmin it is greyed out and says (needs PHP 5.5.x to 7.0.x), However my current version of PHP is 7.1.1 It will not allow me to move further along. Please update tutorial for Mac users https://teamtreehouse.com/library/local-wordpress-development/local-wordpress-development/installing-wordpress-locally

I figured out if I just manually typed in phpmyadmin into the URL after localhost it would pull up the correct page, however, the tool provided on the MAMP page would not allow or work.
