Why won't this compile for wordcount.py?
def word_count(sentence): new_sentence = sentence.lower().split(" ") new_dict = {} for word in new_sentence: new_dict[word] = new_sentence.count(word) return new_dict
Please and thank you!!!
# E.g. word_count("I do not like it Sam I Am") gets back a dictionary like:
# {'i': 2, 'do': 1, 'it': 1, 'sam': 1, 'like': 1, 'not': 1, 'am': 1}
# Lowercase the string to make it easier.
def word_count(sentence):
new_sentence = sentence.lower().split(" ")
new_dict = {}
for word in new_sentence:
new_dict[word] = new_sentence.count(word)
return new_dict

15,970 PointsHi Jose,
it works if you do not explicitly define a space in the split command. Just use .split() instead of .split(" ").
