Too many modifications done by Android studio to files for this tutorial to work.

Trying to follow this tutorial on Android Studio 2.1.3 is nearly impossible. Android studio keeps on creating phantom files and asking you confusing messages on whether you want to add them to the project or ignore them. Finally, you remove files, change things and end up with a pull request that's never going to make it without further processing.

I think this tutorial should address these problems. Examples being idea/gradle.xml, some weird .iml files, etc.

Hi Miguel -- sorry for your trouble! These fast-changing tools are definitely a headache. What course were you specifically working on? Ben Deitch is working on some new material and I'm going to next refresh Interactive Story, but we'll need to work through the rest of the material that's using older tools.
