Hope this will help : 

nav ul {
  margin : 0px 10px; 
}

To set the top and bottom margin to the ul of nav, first of all you should first type nav. Now you are in nav. To go inside ul element of nav, you should give space and type ul. Now you are inside ul element of nav. You should now assign the margin properties inside the curly brackets.

To define margin to top and bottom the same 0px and left and right to 10px, you should write the code as above. The first value i.e. 0px sets the margin to top and bottom while the next value 10px sets the margin to left and right.
