Treebook alternative: ability to download db record values as txt file

Appreciate any help here! I'm extending what I've learned in Treebook to a similar concept, and need to create a link (eg. "Edit | Back") that will download ("Download") the values from that single record in the database as a txt file. I'm trying the method at http://api.rubyonrails.org/classes/ActionController/DataStreaming.html#method-i-send_data but having trouble accessing the right values and generating the link in the view. Thanks for help!
