a couple reasons.

  1. Code challenges are specific when they ask for an answer, so you would need to change the id back to its original form , same with last name.
  2. You are including the id number inside the id.toUpperCase(), which does not need to be in there, same with last name.

try this.

var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";
var userName = id.toUpperCase() + '#' + lastName.toUpperCase();

You don't need to pass any parameters to the toUpperCase() function :)

var userName = id.toUpperCase() + "#" + lastName.toUpperCase();
