Unexpected error: package manager reports...

I'm trying to get the "hello world" app running on my AVD, but whenever I run the app I keep getting weird errors:

Unexpected error: package manager reports that package (package name).funfacts has not been installed: Error executing 'dumpsys package (package name).funfacts: device not found'

The emulator starts up fine but after a few minutes it freezes up and goes grey.

Does anyone have any information here? I'd really like to move forward with this but I can't get around this issue. I've tried googling it but I haven't had much luck.
