Full Stack JavaScript Techdegree Student 1,800 Pointsunknown hash character?
error reads "userName value is '23188XTRSMITH', not '23188XTR#SMITH' ....where did the extra pound/hash sign come from?
var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";
var userName = id + lastName;
userName = userName.toUpperCase ( )
///variable is "23188xtrSmith" not "23188XTR#SMITH"

20,885 PointsUse the JavaScript .toUpperCase( ) string method to assign an all uppercase version of the id variable to the userName variable.
leave out lastName and try it out.
id + lastName is not necessary, this line is not necessary.

The problem here is that you're defining your userName twice. I can copy/paste your code and remove one line and it passes. Just erase this line.

54,971 PointsThe hash character is used in task 2. Doesn't make much sense in task 1.

Full Stack JavaScript Techdegree Student 1,800 Pointsyeah, I guess somehow I glitched the website to require the answer for task two during task 1, it seems to have been fixed now.
