unorderable type?

In my code, maxnum is considered as list() in python. How do I ensure a decleration of a variable is a int

def most_classes(teacherdict): maxnum = -1 maxindex ="" for teacher in teacherdict: num = len(teacherdict[teacher]) if num > maxnum: maxnum = teacherdict[teacher] maxindex = teacher return maxindex

teachers.py
# The dictionary will be something like:
# {'Jason Seifer': ['Ruby Foundations', 'Ruby on Rails Forms', 'Technology Foundations'],
#  'Kenneth Love': ['Python Basics', 'Python Collections']}
#
# Often, it's a good idea to hold onto a max_count variable.
# Update it when you find a teacher with more classes than
# the current count. Better hold onto the teacher name somewhere
# too!
#
# Your code goes below here.
def most_classes(teacherdict):
  maxnum = -1
  for teacher in teacherdict:
    num = len(teacherdict[teacher])
    if  num > maxnum:
      maxnum =  teacherdict[teacher]
      maxindex = teacher
  return maxindex

When you assign teacherdict[teacher] to maxnum you're changing it to a list, as the values associated with any of the keys will be a list of classes.

All you need to do to fix it is assign maxnum to num instead.
