Hi,

I'm fairly new to JavaScript myself, but I think you are supposed to leave the id and lastName variables as they were at the beginning of the challenge. You should be using the userName variable to change the id using the .toUpperCase() method.

My code looked like this for task 1 of the challenge and passed:

var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";

var userName = id.toUpperCase();

Clair's comment is correct for the first task. For the second task, you just need to concatenate the "#" and the uppercase last name to the end of the variable.
