11,403 PointsI don't see any problem with the "syntax", and the code runs without errors after testing your code. I added an extra line of JavaScript code to output to the JavaScript console for debugging (you can see the results in the developer console, after loading the page, by using Ctrl+Shift+J on PC or Cmd+Opt+J on Mac).
var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";
var userName = id.toUpperCase();
console.log(userName); // write to javascript console to test result
This produced the following output in the developer javascript console.
23188XTR
This should be the expected output, and you can see that it converted the lowercase letters in the string to upper case as desired.
