using xampp server from apachefriends.org vs desktopserver

i have been using using xampp for my past projects which i downloaded from apachefriends.org and mysql workbench as my database. So my question is how different is desktopserver's xampp .... is it necessary as it will create conflict for my current mysql database port

Hey Prateek

If you're used to XAMPP there is no need to switch to Desktop Server, which is quite different. Myself, I really don't like Desktop Server and do not use it at all. I find it cumbersome, annoying, and just more complex than it needs to be... but that is just my personal opinion.

I'm an Mac boy, so I use MAMP. I used it for all the courses here on Treehouse and had no issues. So, if you like XAMPP and know how to use it, just stay with that. :)
