Var help, why do I not add quotations?

Task: Use the document.write() function to print the contents of the player variable to the page.

I understand that the answer is

var player = ('Jasmine') document.write (player);

but why no quotation marks around the word 'player'?

This is the correct answer:

var player = ‘Jasmine’;
document.write(player);

The reason you don’t need to add quotes around ‘player’ on the second line is because ‘player’ is just like a box that CONTAINS the string. You can think of player as having ‘Jasmine’ inside it.
