Treehouse Moderator 68,426 PointsIn Python, variables are named pointers to objects in memory. So the names are not declared as a specific type. Instead, variables have the type of the objects they point at.
So in, name = "Kidwell", the string "Kidwell" is defined as type str and placed into memory. name is a variable that points to the string.
The result of all this means variables themselves do not need to be a declared type.
