I wanted to see if I could type an expression that would take if my name is either "Carolina" or "carolina" and wrote:
if name == "Carolina" || "carolina" puts "That's my name, too!" else puts "Hi #{name}!" end
It works! but why is it warning me about using || with strings? "warning: string literal in condition"

You need a full conditional statement on either side of the || operator.
Instead of this:
if name == "Carolina" || "carolina"
try this:
if name == "Carolina" || name == "carolina"
