Website Domain name change?

i want to change my wordpress site domain name with the same hosting account and i don't want to buy another hosting for that domain.The website is hosted by hostgator

The quick way is to buy the new domain name with your hosting account. You can then transfer WordPress to your new domain name with a plugin called 'duplicator'.

But to do this i has to buy hosting on that domain also my hosting for old domain will be wasted?

Hosting and domains are different. You point a domain to a host. You just happen to have hosting and a domain name with the same company.
